Social Justice Network to lead a campaign
to boycott the 2007 State Election
After the political debate has failed to address the diversity within the Australian community, the Social Justice Group believes that it is time to send an unequivocal message of dissatisfaction to all political parties in the state.

The basis of Multiculturalism and social harmony is under threat from the Federal government supported by the far-right extremists, while all political parties are busy engaging in misleading the public by not focusing on the real and every day issues that affect everyday Australians.

“The Group believes the voters deserve to send a strong message of dissatisfaction to all political parties, especially the ones that promoted themselves as pro-Multiculturalism and pro-social justice issues” said Jamal Daoud, spokesperson for the Group.

“Although the protest vote against major parties was translated wrongly as a message of confidence of the smaller parties, these smaller parties did not take any practical steps to defend Multiculturalism, let alone promote it.”

“Multiculturalism for us is not a code word. It is a practical commitment for equal share in participation in the decision making process.”

“The Group believes that the voters are not presented with any credible and real alternative to the traditional major parties' and their attack on real Multiculturalism, the rights of marginalised people and the protection of the public ownership of assets,” said Jamal.

We believe that boycotting the next state Election is the correct political message that dissatisfied voters can send at this election. Thus, the “informal” vote increased slowly over the last decade, especially in areas with high diverse issues and needs.

The group will run at least one candidate in Auburn sending a message that the voters, if presented with credible alternative, will not vote informally or for the smaller parties.

The Social Justice Group will this coming Friday the 9 of February at the Lakemba mosque, Wangee Rd, at 1 pm, ask voters to protest the Election and drop the white ballot paper on March 24.
