Outrage of attacks on political campaigners
The Social Justice Group expresses its deepest concern about the escalating attacks on its members during this state election. The latest attack was the vandalism of the car of Mr Jamal Daoud, the spokesperson for the group.

“The atmosphere at this election is very tense for no reason. In earlier elections, political parties were accepting that they could win or they could lose. This time they want just to win at any cost” said Jamal Daoud. “The attacks on the group’s campaign remind us of democracy in third world countries”

The group received many threatening emails, abusive phone calls, one of its members was physically attacked, their posters were ripped off and written abusive materials were received.

“We understand that after 10 years of dirty politics and attack on civil liberties in Australia that the current atmosphere of abuse, spreading fear and lies have become acceptable things”

“This is the first time we hear that candidates were threatened to be killed, physical attacks happen and abusive threats are becoming normal things”

“The police attended to the incident and promised to investigate the matter. They collected the written materials, talked to the member who was attacked and inspected the vandalized car” said Mr Daoud

“The campaign is proving to be a great success with the response to the campaign from community members were very positive to date”

“We expect a big backlash against the current political parties who promised the community with many things but delivered very little”

The campaigners were threatened to be sued for advocating that people express their disappointment with the current political parties. The group will keep campaigning on the issue until Saturday 24.
