Social Justice Network expresses its concern
about fear in the community

After weeks of campaigning at a grassroots level urging NSW voters to vote blank in the next election, the Social Justice Group’s members were surprised of the positive response they recieved from electorals. The majority of the responses was highly supportive of the campaign, some even donated to the campaign or registered their names to help.

The real concern was the fear among the community members of being targeted if seen to be supportive of the campaign. Especially the Australians from Arabic background and Muslims were fearful to display any poster about the campaign outside their shops or homes. .

“Many shop keepers and households in the suburbs of Bannkstown, Revesby, Lakemba, Punchbowl , Auburn and others, while expressing their total support of the campaign, were very fearful of being targeted if they display posters. However, they were very supportive in handing leaflets to customers and friends” said Jamal Daoud, spokesperson for the Group.

“It is alarming that a large section of the community feel constantly targeted, like being second-class citizens”

It is encouraging to see support not only from Non-English Speaking people, but also from the white Anglo-Saxon community. This indicates that, unlike what the Prime Minister would have us believing, Multiculturalism is alive and well.

Since the issue of Multiculturalism has been marginalised and ignored by most parties, many people have lost hope and faith in the political process. This has contributed to the miscourage of the social justice,” sadi Mr Daoud

The Social Justice Group’s campaign will play a vital role to restore the loss of faith by presenting alternative methods to the current political process and practices.
