Open letter to Auburn Mayor: your racist comments are disgrace beyond imagination!

Dear Ms Irene Simms, Mayor of Auburn
We were deeply shocked to learn about your very racist comments to the media in regard to police raids on Auburn homes last Wednesday. You were quoted urging authorities to deport “these people”, even if they were born in Australia. It is safe to understand that your comments were about people from non-Anglo Saxon background.

These comments are highly offensive because of their racist nature. It is particularly offensive as it comes form the mayor of the most diverse and multicultural area in Australia. You have showed disregard to the feeling and dignity of the area you are supposed to represent.

We understand that your comments are directed to appease the racist elements in the area who are still dreaming of reversing the time back to the White Australia era. We understand that this was the mission behind the foundation of your group/local party.

Let me mention to you that if you are suggesting deporting the “bad guys” in the society, you should take into account that the majority of inmates in the gaol community are from Anglo-Saxon background. Or do you think that these Anglo-Saxons inmates do not have “contract with Australia” to “uphold our laws”!!!

We expected from you as the mayor of the area to stand up for your residents to ensure that they get fair treatment and equal access to natural justice. Instead of visiting Cumberland Street to ensure the respect of law by all sides, you were quick to meet with your racist counterparts on the night of raids. Then on the same night you were quick to convict the people arrested, without knowing the facts.

Let me tell you the facts now. The police made several abuse of power and acted outside their authorities. The police:
1- Did not have a search warrant to conduct such major operation.
2- Used excessive force against women and children.
3- Did not find any drugs or any large money sums in that particular house.

The whole raid turned to be no more than an exercise to terrorise the community and spread racism against it. And you were quick to use the opportunity to spread fear and division for cheap political gains.

As a politician, you should have taken some precautions before ridiculing yourself. Your racist suggestion is both impractical and out of your authority. But let me explain to you why your racist comments are in fact very naïve and ridiculous.

Your suggestion, if it is taken seriously by our politicians and authorities, will spread chaos and inhumanity beyond any imagination, trying to locate courtiers to take our inmates and “bad guys”.

We hope that you can stick to the responsibilities you are suppose to do: manage council resources. We hope that you can stay away from Federal and State issues, as you proved to be so ignorant to understand any. If you insist to do so, we would love to hear that you have an ambition to take Pauline Hanson’s role in the society.

It is very clear that racism has become an epidemic more contagious and deadly than the swine flu one. All progressive forces in the society need to take urgent actions to stop its deadly effects.

  1. Racism is a virus that, if contained, can make a positive change to many people. And even though science has proven there is no such thing as "race" and that "all" humans are one in the same, bigotry and supremacist ideology continue to cloud people's opinions and beliefs. Such is the case with the aforementioned article.

Ms Irene Simms, I hope, is a decent human being with universal values running through her veins. But it appears here that her "backers" rather then her consituents are of more value to her career than ever before.

Her comments are indicitive of a functioning democracy becoming addicted to the alluring drug of power, kickbacks and money. One can only hope her comments resonate throughout the nation, giving everyone a chance to judge not just as a representative of the people, but as a human being.
